VIII Warsaw International Media Summit was held on 18th and 19th November in Warsaw. The challenges that telecommunications and media market will face in the near future were discussed during the congress. The summit was held under the honorary patronage of Magdalena Gaj, the President of the Office of Electronic Communications.
The inauguration ceremony was carried out by Przemysław Kurczewski, chairman of the programme board and CEO of Emitel. A guest of honour Simão Ferraz de Campos Neto, adviser in the ITU-T Study Group 16, also delivered a speech. The ITU-T representative emphasised in his speech the development of 5G technology, which – according to him – will change the perception of multimedia. - Innovation and personalisation are the essence of 5G. Thanks to new capacities of this technology we will move away from such methods of delivering content as, for instance, linear television. In the future user will be able to create his individual and personalised content pack. – said Simão Ferraz de Campos Neto.
Magdalena Gaj, the President of UKE, who also spoke as a guest of honour, said that the greatest challenge would be to implement the European Digital Single Market strategy and to develop appropriate standards to protect the privacy of customers using digital services. – Just like us the technology has changed and in the past it has never galloped forward at this pace. Telecommunications market and media market are practically one market. Television may be accessed via different technological platforms. – said the President of UKE.
Panels regarding primarily the development of the media market were held during the first day of the congress. The shape and development of television in the near future, among others, were debated. On the second day the panellists in their speeches emphasised in particular the protection of the rights of consumers of telecommunications market services.

The aim of the two-day Warsaw International Media Summit is to create a unique opportunity to learn about recent strategies and trends on the telecommunications and media market and to confront them with new and planned legal regulations. The event is addressed to the top management staff, which follows current knowledge on the development of the market in Poland and European countries.
