The President of UKE annuls 2007 tender

The President of UKE has annulled a 2007 tender for two general exclusive frequency licences in the 1710-1730 MHz and 1805-1825 MHz bands.

Planned changes in Telecommunications Act and other laws

The work is underway on amendments to the Telecommunications Act and other laws. We invite you to read the Report on the implementation of the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council, laying down measures concerning open internet access in the European Union, end-users rights and obligations of the Internet service providers. The report covers a period between 1 January and 30 April 2017.

Agreement on "5G for Poland" Strategy

The Office of Electronic Communications, the Ministry of Digital Affairs, the National Institute of Telecommunications, research centres and telecommunications undertakings including, among others, T-Mobile Polska, Polkomtel, Orange Polska, P4, Netia, have signed an agreement on the "5G for Poland" Strategy.

Martin Stysiak has been appointed as the new spokesperson of the Office of Electronic Communications.

Free Access to ITU Reports for Member States

Although ITU member states provide their market data to the Union, they have had to pay for access to ITU reports and statistics. Now they will be able to use them free of charge thanks to the Polish contribution developed by UKE in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Affairs and presented at the ITU Council (15-25/05/2017).

The Position of the President of UKE on Roaming

On 15 June the rules come into force laying down measures concerning open internet access and amending Directive on universal service and users’ rights relating to electronic communications networks and services and Regulation on roaming on public mobile communications networks within the Union, which introduces the "Roam Like at Home" rule and detailed conditions concerning the charges for telecommunications services in the EU.

Karol Krzywicki, the current Director of the Postal Market Department of UKE, was appointed as the Deputy President of UKE with responsibility for the postal market.

Representatives of the Visegrad Group discuss the future of telecommunications market

The future of the European electronic communications market was the main topic of the meeting of deputy ministers and chiefs of the national regulatory authorities for electronic communications market from the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovak Republic and Poland. The meeting, organised on the initiative of the President of the Office of Electronic Communications, was held on 6 February 2017 in Warsaw under the current Polish Presidency in the Visegrad Group (V4). Poland was represented by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Digital Affairs, Marek Zagórski and the President of UKE, Marcin Cichy.

No more regulation of text messages

The President of UKE signed deregulatory decisions for the market for short text messages (SMS) termination on mobile networks.

Regulators from Norway and Poland signed a Memorandum of Understanding

The UKE team visited the Norwegian Communications Authority (Nkom) in Lillesand.  During the meeting, which was held on 26 January 2017, the President of UKE, Marcin Cichy, and Director General of Nkom, Torstein Olsen, signed a Memorandum of Understanding which will be the basis for further cooperation between the regulators.
