Support from the EU for broadband development

On 10 July 2014, the European Commission launched an initiative called "Connected Communities" aimed at providing communities at the local, regional and national level with access to high-speed broadband. The initiative embraces measures intended to provide interested parties with necessary information and advice in order to enable them to access financial resources and develop business models adapted to the community needs.

Results of the "Contest for traineeships in ICT industry"

As part of the "Girls in new technologies" initiative a contest for traineeships in the ICT industry for female students of technical studies was carried out from 15 March to 30 April  2014. The awards in this contest are sponsored by partner companies of the project that promotes the presence of women in the sector of new technologies.

Financial penalty for PTS S.A.

On 16 July 2014, the President of UKE imposed a financial penalty amounting to PLN 497 120.34 on PTS S.A. with its registered office in Wroclaw for the breach of information obligations towards end users, failure to implement obligations with regard to the provision of telecommunications services to end users and for preventing the company's subscribers to use their right to choose a service provider as well as for providing false information to the President of UKE.

MUX-8 | Consultations on contest documentation

On 11 July 2014, the President of the Office of Electronic Communications started consultations on the contest for a general exclusive frequency licence in the 174-230 MHz band used by the radiocommunication broadcasting service, in the whole country area, intended for terrestrial digital broadcasting or re-broadcasting of TV programmes in multiplex 8 (MUX8), for the period of 15 years, starting from delivery of a frequency decision.

Young Innovators Competition | ITU Telecom World 2014

On 30 June, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced the second challenge in the Young Innovators Competition. The competition organizer is looking for innovations based on open source technologies for disaster management. The prize is USD 10,000 and an opportunity to showcase at the InnovationSpace of ITU Telecom World 2014 in Doha (Qatar).

The President of UKE submits its draft decision on wholesale broadband access to the EU authorities

On 3 July 2014, the President of UKE, as part of notification procedure (Article 18 of the TA), notified the European Commission, the Body of the European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and national regulatory authorities in other Member States of its draft decision and resolution for the wholesale broadband market.

The President of UKE extends inspection of InPost

On 30 June 2014, the President of UKE took a decision to extend an inspection of Inpost Paczkomaty Sp. z o.o. , a postal operator, entered in the Register of postal operator under No. B-00155 (previously as InPost Sp. z o.o.) and to start on 4 July 2014 an inspection of a postal operator entered in the Register of postal operators under No. B-00520 - currently operating under the name InPost Sp. z o.o. (previously as Nowoczesne Usługi Pocztowe Sp. z o.o.). Both companies form the Integer.pl S.A. capital group.

Decision of the President of UKE on INEA S.A. and PSM "Winogrady"

On 27 June 2014, the President of UKE issued  an administrative decision at the request of INEA S.A. amending two agreements on access to telecommunications infrastructure of Poznańska Spółdzielnia Mieszkaniowa „Winogrady” (Poznan Housing Cooperative Society "Winogrady"). Based on this decision the agreements were prolonged until 30 June 2016. The decision is immediately enforceable.
