President of UKE awarded at the 5th TIME Economic Forum

Smart Grids and Telecommunications – this was the slogan of the TIME Economic Forum organised for the fifth time by the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Electronics and Telecommunications (KIGEiT) held on 25 February. At the Forum, Vice President of UKE Lidia Kozłowska took part in panel discussions on "The Digital Agenda – implementation vs. investments, facts and myths" and "Relevant markets – a new deal."

Visit of the delegation from Georgia

On 15 February 2013, a delegation from Georgia was on a study visit at UKE. The main goal of the visit was to share knowledge about regulation on competition and consumer protection applied in the Polish telecommunications market.

Results of tender for 1800 MHz frequencies

The President of the Office of Electronic Communications has resolved tender for frequency licences in the 1800 MHz band for the provision of high-speed mobile Internet services. The offers of P4 Sp. z o.o. and Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa S.A. obtained the highest score. Within 2 years at least half of new transmitters will be launched in rural areas and in small towns. The state budget may be fed with a sum exceeding PLN 950 million due to paying fees for frequency licences.

On 1 February 2013, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) awarded Magdalena Gaj, President of the Office of Electronic Communications, with a certificate for her contribution to the WSIS Fund in Trust.

Good practices for websites

Under the patronage of the President of the Office of Electronic Communications, "Good Practice Manual - WCAG 2.0" was published, developed by "Widzialni" Foundation. The publication explains how websites should be prepared to make them accessible for the largest possible number of digitally excluded users.

The President of UKE as the Patron of the National Internet Knowledge Contest

Registration for the 6th edition of the Net Masters Cup - National Internet Knowledge Contest has started. For a few years, the President of the Office of Electronic Communications has held the honorary patronage over the event. It is one of the largest contests in Europe for the knowledge of Internet and IT addressed to upper secondary school students.

Vectra S.A. punished for the violation of telecommunications secrecy

The President of the Office of Electronic Communications imposed a fine on the cable operator Vectra S.A. in the amount of PLN 200,000 for the breach of obligations related to the processing and protection of end-user data.

Cable television operator Vectra punished in connection with wiolation of consumer rights

In connection with a series of consumer complaints and violation of several information obligations in the provision of telecommunications services, the President of the Office of Electronic Communications imposed a fine in the amount of PLN 350,000 on Vectra S.A.
