The Office of Electronic Communications presents a document analysing Machine-to-Machine services (M2M) in Poland.
Communication between devices may be both wired and wireless. The document focuses only on wireless services provided by mobile networks. The analysis shows the market saturation with M2M services and their use in Poland, basing on data provided by the following four infrastructure operators:
- Orange Polska S.A.,
- Polkomtel sp. z o.o.,
- T-Mobile Polska S.A.,
- P4 sp. z o.o.
As of the end of 2015, the M2M cards constituted 4% of all SIM cards. At the end of June 2016, the M2M model operated 2.23 million active SIM cards. This is an increase by 45% comparing to the end of 2013.
The most important categories of services for individual operators in terms of the number of SIM cards of M2M type included transport, protection and monitoring of stocks, the so-called 'smart home' and monitoring of media consumption. The data traffic generated within M2M was low – 0.02% for data transmission and 0.26% for SMS messages – which is consistent with the nature of this type of solutions. The global trend indicates that M2M services will develop dynamically. The relatively small volume of traffic makes this development in Poland possible basing on currently designed networks.
