Internet in each school and library

2010-09-15

Actions taken to fulfill demand of each school and library for the broadband access to the Internet in Poland.

Following to Paragraph 10 (1) of the Agreement concluded on 22 October 2009 between the President of UKE and Telekomunikacja Polaska SA, TP SA committed itself to build or upgrade until the end of 36 months since the signature of the Agreement fixed infrastructure providing at least 1,2 million new broadband lines including 1 million lines of at least 6 Mb/s capacity.

In reference to these provisions, the President of the Office of Electronic Communications has asked TP SA to include in its investment programme all public educational institutions ie: schools, libraries that do not have broadband access to the Internet.

Replying to the President of UKE, TP SA has informed about a decision that each institution that still does not have access to modern Internet services will be included in new investments built according to the Agreement. Furthermore, TP SA has informed the President of UKE that it is currently investigating the present situation and consulting educational institutions on their needs within the telecommunication services. More than 5500 schools and libraries are included in the programme.

Due to holiday period and lack of personnel in these authorities, up to now 3200 entities have been contacted. The conclusion of the marketing and retail actions is scheduled in September 2010.
