HOLIDAYS!!! Be safe, remember emergency numbers

23291
The Office of Electronic Communications reminds about emergency numbers and numbers for services of social value that may be used in the whole territory of the European Union to obtain help in case of an accident, a hazardous event or to report a dangerous situation.

Summer is a time for rest and good fun. However, we sometimes witness or participate in dangerous situations by the water, in the mountains and on tourist routes. Bad weather, and sometimes carelessness or thoughtlessness of holiday-makers cause a significant growth in the number of accidents.

The Office of Electronic Communications reminds that in the territory of the European Union, including Poland, there are emergency numbers which should be called when we need help.

112 is a pan-European emergency number used to report situations where there is a risk to health, life or property. By calling this number we can report traffic accidents, thefts and burglaries, sudden fainting or loss of consciousness, serious injuries and haemorrhages, as well as other situations that pose a threat to health and life of people, or to safety and public order. It is important that apart from 112 number, the previous emergency numbers of particular emergency services on the Polish territory are still active. These are:
  •         997 – Police,
  •         998 – Fire Service,
  •         999 – Emergency Ambulance Service,
  •         984 – Lifeboat Services (limited to a specific area),
  •         985 – Mountain Rescue Services (used also by TOPR [Voluntary Rescue Service in the Tatra Mountains]).

When you are in the mountains you can also use emergency number 601 100 300.
When there is an emergency during your stay at the lake - call 601 100 100.

112 emergency number and numbers of the 116 range for services of social value are 24-hour, free of charge and are active in the whole territory of the European Union, which means that even when we are abroad we can easily call this numbers and receive help in a given country.

Pursuant to the regulations of the European Union, numbers beginning with 116 prefix belong to the so-called group of numbers for harmonised services of ‘social value’, serving community welfare purposes. In our country the following numbers of the 116 range are active:
  •     116 000 – is the European missing children hotline number for parents and   guardians whose child is missing, for the missing children and all people who may help find them,
  •     116 111 – helpline for children and youth,
  •     116 123 – emotional support helpline for adults.
