Development of e-services as chance for improvement of postal operators' activity

Prezes UKE Magdalena Gaj
Magdalena Gaj, President of the Office of Electronic Communications, met Bishar Abdirahman Hussein, Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Bureau, on 20 June in Warsaw.

- New technologies based on broadband internet which changed the way we communicate and exchange information have revealed long awaited new prospects for development of the postal sector – said Magdalena Gaj, adding that - it is necessary to use the potential of e-commerce by this sector and to put special emphasis on improving the quality of postal services.

The talks during the meeting also focused on the issues related to the upcoming UPU Congress in Istanbul (20 September - 7 October 2016).

During discussions a belief was expressed that in the face of developments observed in postal markets on a global scale as well as dynamically evolving new technologies it is necessary to reform and adjust UPU to new challenges related to the growing postal services market.

According to the meeting participants fundamental organizational changes in UPU are necessary to simplify and facilitate the decision-making process and to better use the existing resources.

The UPU Congress is the supreme authority of the Union and meets every four years. Plenipotentiaries from the UPU's 192 member countries gather on this occasion to decide on a new world postal strategy and set the future rules for international mail exchanges. Poland is currently a member of the Council of Administration, one of the two supreme executive authorities of the UPU.
