On 5 December 2014, during the plenary meeting, BEREC Board of Regulators elected BEREC 2016 Chair and 2 Vice Chairs for 2015.
Wilhelm Eschweiler, Vice-President of the German regulatory authority BNetzA, will serve as the BEREC Chair in 2016. Pursuant to the internal regulations of BEREC, in 2015 Wilhelm Eschweiler will act as Vice Chair. Lidia Kozłowska – Deputy President of UKE and Kevin O’Brien – the Chairperson of the Irish regulatory authority COMREG were elected Vice Chairs for 2015.
In 2015 the position of BEREC Chair will be held by Fátima Barros – Chairwoman of the Portugal regulatory authority, who was elected last year.
BEREC is the Body of European Regulators of Electronic Communications, established by the Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 November 2009 establishing the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) and the Office. It brings together 28 EU regulatory authorities (as members) and the European Commission, EFTA Surveillance Authority and regulatory authorities of the EU candidate countries. The main objective of BEREC is to promote coherent implementation of the EU regulations to improve the functioning of the internal market.
Serving as the Chair or Vice Chair of BEREC is a voluntary commitment of the elected person and does not entail employment by BEREC.
